Gallery / Rhode Island Low Back
The Rhode Island Low Back is a very strong chair with a three piece sawn
arm, turned back spindles and a very roomy D-shaped seat. The undercarriage
is interesting with two Philadelphia Style legs in front and two baluster
style legs in the rear; it also has an X stretcher instead of the
traditional H style. The seat height and arm height are taller than all
the other chairs.
This was the first chair style introduced in New England around 1760.
